Droplets spectrum of air-assisted boom sprayers under different environmental and operational conditions AGRIAMBI
Sasaki,Robson S.; Teixeira,Mauri M.; Fernandes,Haroldo C.; Zolnier,Sérgio; Maciel,Christiam F. S.; Alvarenga,Cleyton B. de.
ABSTRACT During pesticide spraying, the psychrometric conditions of the air may cause evaporation of the droplets along their trajectory from the nozzle to the target. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of air psychrometric conditions and operating pressure on the droplet spectrum of air-assisted boom sprayers. The test was performed using a prototype equipped with an axial fan, a flow homogenizer, temperature and relative air humidity sensors, a spray nozzle and a gas-heating system to warm up the airflow. With the assembled system and the aid of a particle analyser, the JSF 11002 spray nozzle was evaluated with respect to droplet spectrum in four air psychrometric conditions (7, 14, 21 and 28 hPa) and at four operating pressures (200, 300, 400...

Empirical Model of a Vertisol Evaporation as Tool for Management of Soil Practicability using Portable Lysimetric Station under Arid Land Context CIGR Journal
El Aissaoui, Abdellah; Yassine, Almasmoudi.
Soil compaction caused by traffics is commonly considered as one of the major’s problems in agriculture. Moisture content have a significant effect on amplifying soil compaction. This study aims to approach evaporation trend of a vertisol (40.47% clay, 39.30% loam and 20.23% sand) having an organic matter content of 1.5% in order to manage timing of its plasticity as a determinant factor inducing compaction created by the traffic of machines. A portable lysimetric measurement system was developed to evaluate soil evaporation trend. An empirical soil evaporation model was developed using three measurement campaigns according to different temperature and irradiance behaviors. Soil moisture content was evaluated with two sensors using conductivity and...

Extending the integrated Richards Equation method to new boundary conditions: model description and validation Agrociencia
Yang,Dejun; Zhang,Tuqiao; Zhang,Kefeng; Lei,Shaogang.
There is a need for developing an accurate and simple method, which can be widely used in agro-hydrological models. The Integrated Richards Equation method is a good and simple method to simulate cyclic movement of water in the soil-atmosphere system. However, this method still has some unsolved problems and it is needed for further development if used in agro-hydrological simulation. In this study, the Integrated Richards Equation method was further developed for the agro-hydrological simulation by introducing the commonly used soil hydraulic functions, top and lower boundary conditions. Infiltration numerical experiments and a lab evaporation experiment were used for the validation of the model's capabilities of modelling infiltration and evaporation,...

Greenhouse irrigation water depths in relation to rose stem and bud qualities Scientia Agricola
Folegatti,Marcos Vinícius; Casarini,Edivaldo; Blanco,Flávio Favaro.
The cultivation of roses occupies a special place in the flower production of Brazil, the concern with the quality of the buds being intimately related with the appropriate supply of water and nutrients to the plant. With the objective of evaluating stem and bud quality the rose variety 'Osiana' was cultivated in a greenhouse using different irrigation water depths based on fractions of pan evaporation (0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00 and 1.25). The experimental design consisted of total randomized blocks with five replications and five treatments. There is a linear tendency of increasing the length and diameter of the stems and the length and diameter of the buds with increasing irrigation water depths.

Impact of artificial destratification on water availability of reservoirs in the Brazilian semiarid Anais da ABC (AABC)
LIMA NETO,IRAN E..
Abstract: Field surveys and integral modelling were carried out to study the effect of bubble plumes on the flow hydrodynamics and the time-evolution of water temperature profiles in a shallow lake with maximum depth of about 4 m. Then, model simulations were performed to verify the feasibility of destratification of ten water-supply reservoirs with capacities of 10-2,000 hm3. Finally, hydrological modelling was conducted to assess the impact of destratification on evaporation suppression and its effects on reservoir yield. The results indicate that net temperature reductions of the order of 1.0°C can be obtained, which corresponds to evaporation suppressions of approximately 10%. In turn, this resulted in increases in the regulated flow of 2-12% that...

Moisture content evaluation of biomass using CFD approach Scientia Agricola
Bartzanas,Thomas; Bochtis,Dionysis D.; Sørensen,Claus G.; Green,Ole.
In grass conservation systems, drying in the field is an essential process upon which the quality and quantity of the material to be conserved is dependent on. In this study a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model, previously validated, was used to assess qualitatively and quantitatively the field drying process of cut grass under different weather conditions and structural specifications of the grass. The use of the CFD model depicts the climate heterogeneity in the grass area with a special focus on moisture distribution, influence of the weather conditions, in order to create the possibility of applying the model as a decision support tool for an enhanced treatment of the grass after cutting.

Oregano production under various water depths estimated by means of the class A pan evaporation Horticultura Brasileira
Marques,Patricia Angélica A; Bernardi Filho,Lineu; Oliveira,Ricardo B de.
The purpose of this experiment was to analyze the effect of five irrigation water depths on oregano production. Oregano is a plant rich in essential oil, commonly used as seasoning in food preparation. The water depths were estimated based on the class A pan evaporation (CPE): 0 CPE (without water replacement); 25 CPE, 50 CPE, 75 CPE, and 100% CPE. The analyzed variables were fresh and dry weight of leaves and roots, yield, net return, and water use efficiency. The experiment was carried out in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo State, Brazil, from February to May 2006. The best results for all the studied variables were found when 100% CPE was used. A linear positive relation was observed between water increments and fresh and dry weight of both the...

PERFORMANCE OF ESTIMATIVE MODELS FOR DAILY REFERENCE EVAPOTRANSPIRATION IN THE CITY OF CASSILÂNDIA, BRAZIL REA
Cunha,Fernando F. da; Magalhães,Fernando F.; Castro,Marco A. de; Souza,Epitácio J. de.
ABSTRACT Before choosing the method of the estimate of reference evapotranspiraton (ET0) in a region, it is important to evaluate the degree of precision of the model. The present research aimed to evaluate the performance of 30 methods for daily ET0 estimate in the Cassilândia city, Brazil. The meteorological data had been obtained from the National Institute of Meteorology in the period of four years (from April, 2008 to March, 2012). As standard method it was chosen the Penman-Monteith-FAO56, and the comparison of the results was by means of the estimated standard error (ESE), the determination coefficient (R2), the coefficients “a” and “b” of the linear regressions, Willmott's index of agreement (d), Pearson's correlation coefficient (r) and the...

Water-resource and land-use issues AgEcon
Calder, Ian R..
This paper reviews perceived notions of the relationships between catchment land use and hydrology and explores whether much of the widely disseminated folklore, so often inextricably linked with issues of land use, is based on myth or reality. Gaps in our knowledge of the underlying processes in relation to land use and hydrology are identified. Our ability to apply this knowledge at different scales ranging from the plot to the catchment and regional scales are discussed and specific examples are drawn from Indian and African case studies. Methods for linking spatially distributed land-use hydrological models with economics and ecology through decision support systems are outlined and proposed as a framework for the integrated management of land and...

West African Monsoon And Satellite Observations Of Water Vapor OceanDocs
Gaye, A.; Citeau, J..
The atmospheric water vapor, a main climatic parameter, remains also one of the less well known in the inter tropical area. Different space programs have been carried out to improve its measure: the data provided by these experimental or operational programs, give an alternate and complementary information the model’s analysis. Moreover, the time series available today, are long enough to allow studies of variability of different climatic parameters. The following contribution, dedicated to the climate of the Western Africa, analyses the atmospheric humidity as retrieved by NOAA8/TOVS12 dated over the last 20 years. The climatology of the upper tropospheric humidity (UTH13), retrieved from HIRS-121, evidences the importance of the position and the...
